The Institute of Clinical Research and Association for Human Pharmacology in the Pharmaceutical Industry, are pleased to announce their 2nd Joint Meeting on topical issues in early phase development.

The topic of the meeting on Wednesday 9th June will be "Phase I studies: Healthy Volunteers or Patients?" and will be held in London at the South Bank University

As the nature of early development continues to evolve, the trend to include biomarkers in all early studies has increased, as had the need to demonstrate safety, tolerability and proof of concept in the target population. The UK is also a hot bed for translational medicine, and the simple phase I studies of yester year have been replaced by complex phase I studies addressing these points. This meeting dedicated on phase I studies in patients will debate the need for these studies, the pros and cons of conducting phase I studies in patients, and the special considerations for these populations.

This full day event will explore different scenarios when it is appropriate to conduct phase I clinical trials in patients and how early clinical development can be enhanced by the approach taken. A range of early development techniques will be presented in various populations to include oncology with guidance on the use of oncology biomarkers, clinical trials in impaired populations, safety studies in cardiovascular patients, evaluation of new treatments for asthma and COPD and new concepts in early phase development of CNS drugs, and the impact of photosensitivity on drug development.
