Poster abstract submission

The poster session provides an opportunity for researchers attending the conference to present their work (or in progress), enabling them to discuss their evolving project with others in the field, gain feedback and expand publicity for their work.

Timelines

  • The deadline for poster abstract submissions is Friday 5th February 2010. The abstract submission form is at the bottom of this page.
  • You will be notified in early March 2010 whether your abstract has been accepted for presentation.

Competition categories

There are three categories to which posters can be submitted. A poster may of course fit into more than one category. In these circumstances, the most relevant category should be chosen. The three categories are: innovation, research and operational.

Innovation (I)

This could be a new solution which has solved a problem or introduced a new idea in the work environment to improve a situation or process.
Example: Identified that many staff need training in writing SOPs, but it’s difficult to get them altogether for a session and to provide continuity an elearning module was produced and offered via the company intranet.

Research (R)

If you have conducted research into an area as part of a degree or private study, or research in an area of your own work. This research could be of a scientific nature, e.g. presenting the results of a clinical trial, or of a process, e.g. patient recruitment in a particular culture.
Example: You have been asked to provide a list of all peer reviewed clinical research journals and their impact factors to the business development manager. Your findings can be presented as a poster.

Operational (O)

You may wish to report on a particular process already in existence that you have improved or could improve practice in a certain area.
Example: You are often asked to send out samples of clamps for nasogastric (ng) tubes. The process of sending these out was bureaucratic and time-intensive involving many departments. You implemented a system of having a dedicated telephone line for customers asking for samples and the samples were stored in your own department and sent out the same day. Customer satisfaction improved and so did sales of the ng tubes.
