Clinical Outsourcing Manager

Purpose:
Responsible for implementing and driving the global clinical outsourcing strategy and to maximize return on outsourcing spend considering quality and cost.
Main responsibilities:
- Ensure all outsourcing activities are conducted in a manner that conforms to an ethical process as well as adherence to all applicable compliance standards and guidelines
- Partner with internal groups to assess outsourcing needs and requirements and to assist in definition of work specifications and revisions
- Identify and evaluate CROs, Central Laboratories and specialty External Service Providers (ESP) that will support the delivery of quality, timely and cost-effective external resources to support global activities
- Prepare and analyze requests for outsourcing, review of ESP assessments and ESP contracts
- Drive the development, negotiation and timely execution of ESP contracts ensuring a quality cost effective outcome through collaboration with study teams, finance, legal and other functional areas
- Proactively monitor adherence to contractual terms and conditions
- Prepare external cost forecasts and metrics
- Lead and manage ongoing ESP collaborations (business conflicts, issue resolution, project status, adherence to budget, periodic provider appraisals, etc.) and serve as the client contact to the assigned ESP(s)
- Continuously monitor the outsourcing environment to keep current with ESPs, industry outsourcing trends, Key Performance Indicators (KPI) and performance benchmarks
- Ensure appropriate level of communication with management, project teams and ESPs
- Training of internal staff in outsourcing activities, processes and requirements
- Liaise with Global Quality Management and other relevant internal groups in conducting pre-contract assessments and audits
Qualifications and experience:
- Scientific or academic bachelor’s degree or higher
- Minimum 3 years experience in clinical research with a Contract Research Organization (CRO) or pharmaceutical company
- Minimum 1 year (2 yrs preferred) clinical outsourcing and External Service Provider (ESP) management experience
- Understanding of the clinical development process and understanding of the management of clinical trials
- Understanding and knowledge of clinical trial cost drivers and costing models; contract and/or accounting experience preferred
- Familiarity with outsourcing industry, i.e. CRO, Central Laboratories, ECG, IVRS and other specialty ESPs
- Leadership ability as characterized by motivation to deliver quality results under tight timelines and budget
- Ability to manage multiple programs and processes simultaneously
- Conflict management experience with ability to effect efficient issue resolution
- Influencing, negotiation and project management skills
- Excellent interpersonal, presentation, organizational, written and verbal communication skills
- Experience with interacting effectively with internal and external customers and groups
- Computer skills and, command of English
- Willing to travel
- Relevant working/residency permit or Swiss/EU-Citizenship
